When one of our little patients needs orthodontic treatment with braces, after a thorough assessment of their specific case, we are able to make an estimate of how long they will need to wear them. 👩⚕️
But also, when the brackets are removed, once the teeth are perfectly aligned, patients have to wear retainers so that the teeth do not move again. 🦷
They need a period of stabilisation and the retainers ensure that the tooth does not return to its previous position.
There are many types of retainers so it's a good idea to choose one that suits your child's lifestyle. And they are usually quite comfortable. ✔️
Does this mean that they will always have to wear these retainers? It depends a lot on each case, but we assure you that after a few weeks of continuous retention, it is possible that you will only need them at night. In any case, it will be up to the specialist to determine this. 👌🏼
