Many parents believe that baby teeth do not need to be looked after, that as they will fall out there is no need to brush them or use the toothpaste recommended by the paediatrician. This is a mistake, there are many reasons to take care of baby teeth, which we will tell you about below.

Baby teeth are also subject to infection due to bacterial build-up. We feed our babies fruit porridges containing fructose on a daily basis. Formula and breast milk also contain sugars.. This is not to say that babies and toddlers are at the same risk of tooth decay as adults - of course not! But you do need to take care of their young teeth.

If they become infected because of poor care, your child could get an infection that could lead to phlegmon. Infections can enter the bloodstream (not normal, but can happen) and attack other organs. There are many diseases that are linked to poor dental hygiene.

Take care of your baby teeth, from the first to the last!

In addition to this, failure to care for them can cause pain and discomfort.. It should not be forgotten that milk teeth have a very important function: to reserve the space for the permanent teeth. That is why it is important to observe how they are born, how they erupt and if they present any problems.

In conclusion: it is important to start taking care of teeth as soon as they appear. Follow your paediatrician's advice. With a special baby toothbrush you can get them used to holding it in their hands and getting used to cleaning their teeth. Establish a routine and teach them little by little. When the upper teeth start to erupt, your paediatrician will recommend that you introduce a cleaning paste at the first year check-up.

And remember that if any problem occurs, if you have any doubt or if you need your first check-up, Dr. Consuelo Badía and her team are waiting for you at the Ziving clinic in Valencia. See you!
